Well, courtesy the 48th St. Best Western, we have internet and one (perhaps last) chance to post before starting the ride.
Orientation for the 2007 Get Your Guts in Gear charity ride was in NYC tonight, not far from Times Square. We had a devil of a time getting here with the traffic, but after 3 hours (without traffic, it takes about 1hr 15min) we finally made it! Our new ride friends (above) Caroline, Felipe, Bob and Chris were already there when we walked in - and what a crowd there was! I wasn't prepared for how many people were there for such a new ride.
And there was bike bling too - though I didn't get a pic of the Orbea I saw! We even saw a tandem bike (that's gonna be "fun" on the climbs...) It was cool to see all the bikes and people gathered together for such a great cause.
During orientation, we learned all about the ride, got safety tips and previews of the day. The highlight though was the new video they unveiled for the ride. You can check it out at the website here.
After the orientation, we went out for some dinner at Times Square. This little spot of NYC never ceases to amaze me with all the lights and energy.
So, that's all the news that is the news tonight. It's already 10:15pm and we have to be at Pier 84 tomorrow morning at 5(!!) am. Tomorrow's ride goes up the west side of Manhattan, over the George Washington Bridge(!) past Palisades Park, up the Hudson and over the Bear Mtn bridge before our first campsite in Beacon NY.
Hopefully I'll be able to post more tomorrow night - L8r!
dude! you should have let me know about this! you were biking through my romping ground! glad it was a great time!
